Nicolás Janowski | b. 1980, Buenos Aires, Argentina
Visual artist, anthropologist and curator based in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Janowski works between art, documentary practices and curatorial processes. His work explores the concept of territory, the sense of belonging, and hybrid identities from an intersectional perspective in Latin America. Collaborative dynamics and historical contexts are his narratives’ axes as well as their dissemination through transmedia platforms.
Among other awards and distinctions, he has received the Repsol Lima Photo Award in 2014, recognitions in 2013 by BURN with the Emerging Photographer Award from Magnum Foundation and PhotoVisura Award. In 2015, TIME magazine highlighted him as one of the 9 photographers to follow in Argentina. His book “Fin del Mundo” co-published by Chaco & Universidad de Cádiz, Spain, has been awarded 1st place in the Iberoamerican Photobook Award in 2017. In 2018 and 2019, VIST Projects, Open Society Foundations & CI Mexico commissioned his last 2 projects.
He has had solo exhibitions in most countries in Latin America, Europe and the United States. His work is part of public and private collections such as the National Museum of Fine Arts in Argentina and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Moscow.
